Papaya

A nutritious tropical fruit bursting with flavour

Natural Organic Goodness

We source our organic red papaya from the Innisfail region in Far North Queensland, just south of Cairns.

Organic papaya is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilisers or genetically modified organisms.

Papaya is a sweet and juicy tropical fruit with a soft texture and a sweet flavour that is similar to a combination of mango and peach.

Fruit that is partially yellow should be left at room temperature and will ripen in a few days. If you want to speed this process, place in a paper bag with a banana.

Red Papaya is ripe when skin is green/yellow, and there is a little yeild to gentle pressure. When ripe, cut fruit should have bright orange/red flesh and be stored in the fridge for maximum freshness.

The Papaya Journey

Originally native to southern Mexico and Central America, the papaya found its way to Australia through a fascinating journey of botanical exploration and agricultural diversification. The introduction of papaya to Australia can be traced back to the late 1800s when European settlers began experimenting with tropical crops in the northern regions of the country.

However, it wasn't until the mid-20th century that papaya cultivation gained substantial momentum, primarily in Queensland, where the warm and humid climate proved ideal for its growth.

Over time, Australian farmers honed their expertise in cultivating this tropical gem, making it a thriving and beloved fruit, contributing to the nation's vibrant and diverse culinary traditions.

Full of the Good Stuff

Papaya, often hailed as the "fruit of angels," boasts a plethora of health benefits. Rich in vitamin C (double your daily recommended intake in a 150g serve!) and fiber, this tropical fruit supports a robust immune system and aids in digestion. Its high content of vitamin A and beta-carotene promotes eye health and may reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration.

Additionally, papaya contains enzymes like papain, which aids in digestion and can ease stomach discomfort. Its low calorie count and high water content make it a great choice for weight management. With its antioxidant properties, papaya also helps combat free radicals, potentially reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

Incorporating this delicious fruit into your diet not only pleases your taste buds but also nourishes your body in numerous ways.
